Words to Get Ready for Work
Don’t be angry today.
Be depressed.
It’s safer.
Don’t be angry today.
Be depressed.
It’s safer.
“Who’s ever the villain picks the rules.”
- Sophia, age 6
She doesn’t know how right she is.
Most mornings, for as long as I can remember, upon waking, I have a
song in my head. It’s just playing there, who knows why, playing as
surely as the last song of a soundtrack plays over the rolling credits
when the movie is over and the audience has gone. I rarely remember my
dreams, so it seems I don’t dream at all. No matter. My sleeping mind
no doubt spins in more disturbing or depressing directions as it it
does in waking hours. Dreams are best left to themselves. I have their
leftover soundtrack, a song in my head to begin the day. Some
mornings, it’s a recognizable song. Sometimes not, just some amalgam
of notes made up in my head through the night. Either way, it helps
launch into the day which will not be mine to guide.
If the morning songs stop, I don’t know what I’ll do with my days. End
them, I guess.
Yup. Now, I get it. No wonder I’m grumpy so much. No wonder people think I’m distant so often. No wonder I’m always so busy. My small clutch of guiding principles are a play set of irreconcilable beliefs that I mentally juggle most of my days. To wit…
* I am a misanthropic humanist.
* I am an idealist with no hope of attaining ideals.
* I am an atheist who misses god.
There’s more. But that’s the gist of it.
It sure is tiresome juggling axes and puppies.

By now, you have proven you’re a narcissistic megalomaniac whose only ambition is to WIN for yourself, not govern for the good of the country. You should be ashamed.
I know you won’t listen because only you know best, but your comments, calculations and continued candidacy is awful for this country. You’re the most electable? Let’s say you’re right on that. If so, then America will, once again, get the president it deserves. We deserved your lying, greasy husband (if your partner in that soulless, loveless political bargain you call a marriage counts as a husband). And, worse, for US, we deserved Bush. Yes, indeed, let’s say you’re right. (I imagine “You’re right” are the words you’ve most sought to rend from others for the better part of your adult lifetime.) Let’s say you ARE the most electable — your SOLE remaining justification for pushing this on until you destroy, not only Obama, but the Democratic party. It is better to lose the presidency with an idealistic candidate who could elevate the level of our discourse with your ourselves and certainly our dealings in the world than have you win it with YOURSELF as your only IDEAL. You are not fit to govern this country.
This is not sports. It’s SO much more than WINNING, you cynical opportunist. This is about governing. This is about leading a sliding nation that must become better in all ways so we can deserve better. So we can again care about our best ideals.
